Join our intern team and become immersed in life at a primate sanctuary

Our intern program allows motivated individuals the opportunity to focus on one area of the sanctuary in depth, while also learning other important animal husbandry and leadership skills. Our interns act as staff assistants but generally stay for 6-12 months. There are opportunities to split internships as well, focusing half of your time in one area and the other half in another area of the foundation. We currently offer internships in the following:
- Sickbay – caring for injured and sickly monkeys
- Meds – distributing medication and assisting with critical care cases
- Sections – learning and caring for 4 of our on-site Vervet Troops, ensuring that they all have access to clean, safe and enriching enclosures
- Integration – integrating single monkeys into troops or groups with other monkeys
- Social Media – strengthening our online presence, monitoring our social media platforms, editing videos and graphic design
- Baby Care – caring for orphans during baby season until they are ready to meet their foster monkey mums
- Vegan Chef – helping prepare nutritious and tasty meals for our team and assisting with vegan outreach around Limpopo
- We may have other internships available seasonally, if you have special skills that you feel may be of use, please contact us and let us know

Interns do pay a reduced fee for their stay here, please contact us for further information on our prices. Interns are invited to our monthly staff training sessions which cover a variety of topics, such as critical care training, leadership skills, parasitology, local flora and much more! During their stay, interns also undertake a project of sorts related to their field of focus, these projects areĀ intended for interns to follow an aspect of sanctuary life that interests them. Our interns are highly valuable to the sanctuary and while their intern experiences pass by quickly, the impact they make is long lasting.
My Top Section internship at the VMF was a life-changing experience. The amazing people, work and animals at the project made my stay unforgettable.
