Would you like to take on a voluntary staff role with one of the largest primate sanctuaries in the world?
We are seeking dedicated, positive and friendly characters to take on the voluntary staff roles of “Volunteer Coordinator” and “Primate Carers”. These voluntary positions are for a minimum of 18 months.
Volunteer Coordinator
How would you like to swap your desk job for nature and experience all round sunny weather? Do you want to work amongst and with animals and people on a daily basis?
You enjoy the following:
- Meeting new people and connecting with them
- Being a welcoming host for volunteers, anticipate to their needs and make them feel comfortable
- Coordinating bookings, arrivals and departures for volunteers and voluntary staff
- Organising volunteers where to meet at each point of their day, days off, touring and prioritising needs
- Maintaining facilities and organise repairs when needed
- Helping out with monkey care when needed
What is required:
- At least two years work experience in a similar field
- Excellent organisation and people skills, self-motivation and confidence working on your own initiative towards the Foundation’s goals and objectives
- Willingness to adopt a vegan lifestyle whilst at the Foundation
- A qualification or experience in wildlife rehab or animal care (preferred) / customer services / hosting.
As Volunteer Coordinator you can bring your people skills into action to benefit the monkeys. You will be taking care of the volunteers and ensuring they enjoy their time while being here. As a highly organised person you will be planning many daily things that revolve around volunteer life. You might turn volunteers into ambassadors for the VMF and wildlife conservation. Could there be anything better?
In taking on these voluntary staff roles, we will provide basic cabin accommodation, vegan meals and a small stipend.

Primate Carer
You want to work with and amongst primates? Your dream is to help rehabilitating animals in Africa? Then the primate carer position is the perfect fit for you!
As Primate Carer you will be
- Identifying all monkeys individually by appearance
- Monitoring the health of all monkeys in your area
- Ensuring all monkeys have food and water, cages are clean and see that all their needs are met
- Observations of behavior of monkeys within your area
- De-worming monkeys in your area, and possibly administering medications to them
- Training and supervising new volunteers on a daily basis
- and much more
You have
- At least two years work experience in a similar field
- Excellent organisation and people skills, you are self-motivated and confident in working on your own initiative towards the Foundation’s goals and objectives
- A willingness to adopt a vegan lifestyle whilst at the Foundation
- A qualification or experience in wildlife rehab or animal care (prefered)
In this position, you ensure that the monkeys in your area are happy and healthy. For that, you ensure all their needs are met on a daily basis (like water, food, clean and safe environment, social and tactile enrichment). You work hand in hand with the integration team to socialise monkeys, integrate them into larger social groups and providing orphaned babies with a monkey foster mums. When needed, you administer medication to the monkeys to provide them with the best medical care. You will also be sharing your knowledge with volunteers and inspire them with your passion. For that, you will train and supervise the volunteers and guide them during their stay.
